Ready for Spring Break on Hilton Head Island?

It seems like we’re heading for a pretty mild winter here in the South. Just the same, we’re already looking forward to spring break.

Yeah, March is a long way off. But it will be here before you know it – and what’s more, it never hurts to start planning early if you really want to make this spring break count. Some of the best places get booked early, so it’s crucial you have those plans in place.

If you’re looking for the hottest spring break spot you can reach on a tank of gas, then just point your hood across the Talmadge Bridge and keep going until you run out of land. If you planned it right, you should be on beautiful Hilton Head Island.

And you’re here just in time. That late March period between the mercury rising and the RBC Heritage coming to town makes for some of the best vacation time you can ask for. So what are you going to do while you’re in town?

WHERE TO EAT

With his restaurant Lucky Rooster, Chef Clayton Rollison has reinvented what the island’s culinary scene has to offer.

That’s in no way a slight on those who came before Lucky Rooster – Hilton Head’s global reputation as a haven for foodies is well-deserved. But Rollison’s wild creativity, coupled with a deep passion for his food and the ingredients that make it up, have given the area’s restaurant scene a shot in the arm, encouraging everyone to step up their game.

The menu varies based on seasonal availability, but at its core, it offers a refreshing new take on Southern soul food classics. And those who attended the Savannah Food and Wine Festival’s bartender challenge this past year might recall a Darjeeling 1888 Punch that took the bourbon category. Lucky Rooster’s bartender, Paul Rabe, is the mixologist behind this award-winning drink and he’ll happily mix one up for you.

WHERE TO PLAY

Music & Taste on The Harbour’s 2018 schedule has not been officially released, but it generally kicks off on the last Thursday of March, giving you a perfect send-off to your spring break.

Held at Shelter Cove Harbour, this event invites you to stroll along the brick-and-tabby promenade that runs around the picturesque harbor. Along the way, you’ll sample light appetizers from the many restaurants overlooking the water, while you try to contain your envy at the gorgeous yachts docked among the slips.

As the name implies, the emphasis here is on music, and the festival packs a tight schedule of local favorites. Last year saw acts like The Headliners, Deas Guyz and Target the Band bringing down the house. The event is free and held every Thursday from 6-8 pm.
